FAQ

Fused granulate fabrication (FGF) is an Screw extrusion-based 3D printing technique where plastic granulates (AKA plastic pellets) are fed and extruded through a nozzle. FGF may be referred to as Fused Granulate Fabrication, Fused Particle Fabrication, or Pellet 3D Printing.

Pellets are cheaper than filament not only because one processing step is eliminated but also because pellet-form plastics are used in injection molding and other types of manufacturing already, so the market for pellets is huge, which keeps prices low.
  • FGF additive manufacturing is similar with fused filament fabrication(FFF/FMD) technology, but FGF 3D printers use plastic pellets as raw materials, plastic pellets are melted in extruder with high temperature, and then extruded by threaded rod with high pressure to build parts by depositing materials layer by layer; with the advantages of strong extruding power, big extruder output and rapid extruding, FGF pellet 3D printers are ideal for industrialpurpose and large format 3D printing;
  • FGF 3D printing fabricates parts by melting plastic pelletsdirectly to avoid material performance lose during melting process which is necessary for FDM 3D printing to make filaments, which leads to its excellent adaptability of printing materials, lower material cost and more excellent performance of the parts, FGF 3D printing is more environmental friendly too; at the same time, filament broken problem of FDM 3D printing is perfectly solved.

Low Cost

3D printing with pellets offers numerous advantages. The production costs are significantly lower (by 60 – 90 %) compared to filament 3D printing because pellets are more widely available and less processed than filament, which reduces their production cost and time.

Fast Print Speed

With the advantages of big extrusion volume and stable extruding, combined with constant feeding device, FGF 3D printer could highly improve production efficiency and short working time, it is ideal for large format industrial purpose 3D printing;

Good Material Compatibility

FGF 3D printers are highly adaptable to various materials, almost all thermoplastics are workable in FGF 3D printers; also, color could be changed anytime during printing process by adding color master batch to meet customer`s individual needs.

Pellet 3D printers have excellent material adaptability; one is traditional commercial thermoplastics and recycle materials, such as PLA, ABS, PETG, ASA, PS, TPU, TPE, PET, etc; those materials are easy to buy with low price; manufacturing cost could be highly reduced; another is special materials or modified materials specially designed for specific industrial purpose with requirement of high strength and high temperature resistance; such as PC-CF, PA-CF, PLA-CF, ABS-CF, PPS-CF, etc.

Max extrusion volume 1kg/h for G5Ultra; max extrusion volume 5kg/h for G12, and max extrusion volume 25kg/h for G40; while extrusion volume of FDM 3D printer is 40g to 50g per hour.

The printing time depends on materials, shape and size of the parts; PioCreat pellet 3D printers are equipped with self-developed extruder and big size nozzle to provide large and stable extruding output, printing ability is better than similar products in the market.
